What to Bring
Be sure to bring the following items on your guided adventure to ensure your safety, compliance, comfort and enjoyment!
Clothing and Personal Items
- Sunscreen and bug spray
- Hat and sunglasses
- Layered clothing – the temps and weather conditions can swing dramatically in a single day. Best to be over-prepared.
- Rain gear
- Open-toed sandals, or similar, are okay for motorboat and non-portaging trips.
- For paddle trips involving portaging – closed-toed footwear that can get wet, or waterproof boots, are a must.
- For hiking trips – sturdy, closed-toed footwear is essential.
- Clients are responsible for their own food and beverages. A modest sized cooler with ice-packs will be provided by your guide for perishable food. Space is limited.
- If you plan to keep fish, bring along a cooler and ice to transport the fillets home. Your guide will clean the fish for you and bag them in ziplocks.
Valid Fishing Licenses and Permits
- For fishing trips, all guests must possess a valid Minnesota fishing license. If we are targeting trout, a Minnesota trout stamp is also required.
- If we are going into Canada – an Ontario fishing license and Remote Area Border Crossing permit are also required.
Additional Local Regulations
- Cans and glass bottles are not allowed in the BWCAW. It is generally best to bring along water in a reusable container (such as a Nalgene) or in plastic bottles.
- Additional BWCAW Regulations apply for any trip going into the BWCAW.
- Additional Ontario Regulations apply for any trip going across the Canadian border.
Clothing and Personal Items
- Cold weather gear – hats, jackets, gloves, mittens, etc. When snowshoeing, you will sweat, so bring along an extra hat to swap out as needed.
- For boots – the warmer the better and waterproof is ideal. Sorel, Baffin, Kamik, etc. are all good brands.
- Bibs or snow pants are very helpful when ice fishing.
- Layered clothing – the temps and weather conditions can swing dramatically in a single day. Best to be over-prepared.
- Hand warmers (such as Hot Hands) are very useful.
